Frequently Asked Questions in Home Care and NDIS

Please reach us at support@cisp.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

🏡 SIL (Supported Independent Living) provides support workers to help participants live as independently as possible with daily tasks such as personal care, meal preparation, household activities, and community participation.

🏠 SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) refers to specially designed housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.

🛏️ STA (Short-Term Accommodation) provides temporary accommodation and support, often used for respite, emergencies, or trying independent living arrangements.

👩‍⚕️ Community Nurses provide clinical supports such as:

  • Medication management
  • Wound care
  • Health assessments
  • Continence care
  • Catheter care
  • Clinical monitoring

👨‍💼 Support Workers assist with:

  • Personal care
  • Community access
  • Household tasks
  • Daily living activities
  • Social participation
  • Transport assistance

❌ Not usually.

Participants are generally responsible for ordinary living expenses such as:

  • Rent
  • Groceries
  • Utilities
  • Everyday household costs

The NDIS funds disability-related supports, not everyday living expenses.

🤔 In some circumstances, yes.

The NDIS generally expects supports to be provided by external workers or providers. However, family members may be funded in exceptional circumstances when it is considered reasonable and necessary, and there are no suitable alternatives available.

Your provider should monitor funding usage with you and discuss any concerns early.

Planning ahead can help avoid service interruptions. Support can also be sought from your Support Coordinator, Local Area Coordinator (LAC), or NDIS Planner to explore available options and future funding needs.
